Basic WEAVING TOOLS

In this Tutorial I show you the basic weaving tools I use and how I load them up with yarns or fibre.

Basic Weaving Tools:

Stick Shuttles: These are passed back and forth through the yarn threads of the warp to make the weft. Stick Shuttles are made from thin flat pieces of wood with a notch at each end to hold the yarn as you wind it around the shuttle. These are great for weaving Yarns up to chunky weight and I usually put around 10 metres on each shuttle.

Tapestry Needles: A blunt needle with a large eye. The needles I use are made from thin flat pieces of wood. The large eye is great for threading fibre or thick bulky Art yarns onto the needle and makes it much easier to weave these fibres into a weaving. I usually cut a length of yarn around 3 metres for each needle.

Weaving Combs: The weaving comb is used to keep your yarns and fibre firmly in place as you weave locking the threads and fibres into the Weft. they are also great for blending fibres on the spot.
